UPDATED DAYS!! We are pleased to announce the addition of the Studio School @ Kaleidoscope: A creative learning environment for teens! The Studio’s creative learning environment is an open studio setting with supportive, creative and trained staff and educators geared toward assisting the academic and creative needs of Atlanta-area non-traditionally educated teens. Due to feedback from parents and teens, the program will run 2-3 days per week, Tuesday and Friday (with Thursday as an optional additional day) from 9a-2p. Studio School Students may also attend the afternoon Portfolio classes on Tuesday and Thursdays from 4-6p at no additional charge during the initial 2017-2018 school year (Photography Class with Brook Hewitt not included). The school year runs from August 14th, 2017 to May 18th, 2018.
The program is designed to be geared toward independent, self-directed learners ages 13 – 18 who specifically have a strong interest in making, creating, and participating in the arts as well as enriching his/her academics. We believe that kids do best when they are in an environment where they feel comfortable, can explore and discover on their own, when they are ready – delving into topics and projects that are very interesting and exciting to them. The class size will be limited to 7 students initially, but it will remain small as we grow. We want each student to receive personal attention and a hands-on experience with the staff and educators.
If you have a teen that is looking for a for a program to supplement his/her home school or online school program, contact us today for more information and tuition details! Space is limited - registration will be open by 5/30/17.

During Fall Break, we had the pleasure of having Nick Madden join us an incredible week exploring how art and making films come together. We talked about how artists are essentially to the film world and the types of jobs are out there for artist/creators. We learned so much about making sets, props, costuming, and telling a story through a lens. The kids came up with absolutely fascinating stories, characters and ideas for how their stories would be told. Some kids got so into designing the backgrounds and parts that they became known as the prop masters. We learned how involved the process of making everything work is as well as how teamwork is absolutely essentially to the success of creating even a short stop motion film. I am always amazed at the stuff the kids come up with and their ability to think and problem solve together. Check out one of the stop motion films created by some 6-7 year olds with the help of Nick.

What a GREAT summer! I had an amazing time meeting lots of new friends, working with new teachers/artists from Decatur and watching the magic of the studio unfold into some really incredible art work. From comic book creation to book-making to building challenges and stop motion. The amount of creativity and problem solving at the studio was at the best I have seen yet. Since things were moving so rapidly, I have not had a chance to showcase all of the happenings and work created at the studio! Also, during all of this, we opened an additional 1300 sq feet of creative space! I am amazed, thankful and cannot wait to see what is in store. Fall Break Camp registration is open and accepting registrations! Enjoy the slide show of all of the wonderfulness that happened this summer!
Last week we had a fantastic time at Comic Book Camp! The campers learned about character development, drawing, storytelling with images and the art of creating unique comic book stories. We also discussed how cartoons and comics come to life through flip books, animation and stop motion film. The kids had exposure to tons of current and classic comic books and graphic novels for reference as well as a staff expert in sequential design - Artist Cullen Gardepe. Check out some of the awesome tools and such that the kids were able use to develop their works
